Tyneside Home Improvements (THI) started back in 2008, with Director Kevin Kerr working from a kitchen table in a house in Jarrow.
Now, after 15 years, THI has grown steadily despite tough economic times. We’ve kept up by doing different things and staying competitive.
Because of good work, a good reputation, and people recommending us, THI is now one of the top choices for home improvements in the North-East of England. Even though we’re still in Jarrow, we often compete with big national companies like Everest Home Improvements and Anglian Home Improvements.
In 2020, THI had 11 full-time staff and 26 subcontractors. Over the past year, we’ve added more people to our team – now we have 20 full-time staff and 26 subcontractors. We also have 5 apprentices learning about things like business, carpentry, building, and plastering.
We’re proud to be a South Tyneside business and support the Pledge initiative.
Our Financial Controller, Chris Green, says:
“Since signing up to the pledge, we have ensured that, as much as possible, our supply chain and employees are local to South Tyneside.
“Two of our largest suppliers, South Tyne Building Supplies and Premier Roofs are based in South Tyneside, and we regularly buy goods and services from ITC Services, Hitachi (UK), Shaun Matthias, Stevens Signs, Timberline and Arnold Laver, to name a few!
“Whilst not the largest business in South Tyneside, our trading with local suppliers and employing staff who live in South Tyneside has a minimum annual Gross Value Added contribution of £1,300,000. That is before accounting for any employees and sub-contractors from outside of the area who work from our headquarters in Jarrow and spend locally.
As an organisation, we are laying solid foundations to achieve more growth, and jobs in the very near future, and we feel that it is fitting to share the story of our success and showcase what is achievable for businesses based in South Tyneside.”
